DA, MKP charges against Sibiya delays his first day testimony Zandile.Khumalo Mon, 10/13/2025 - 15:10 CAPE TOWN – The SAPS Ad Hoc Committee proceedings got off to another rocky start, with concerns raised about potential conflicts of interest involving two members.During the proceedings, it emerged that uMkhonto weSizwe (MKP) MP David Skosana and DA MP Lisa Schickerling had opened criminal cases against Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and suspended Deputy National Commissioner for Crime Detection, Shadrack Sibiya.This came on the very day Sibiya was set to take the stand before the committee for the first time.READ | LIVESTREAM | SAPS Ad Hoc Committee continuesDA MP Glynnis Breytenbach informed the committee that Schickerling had been withdrawn and replaced by Damien Kloppers to avoid any conflict of interest. However, Skosana remained in the chambers.After several back-and-forth discussions, the committee allowed the proceedings to continue, with Sibiya taking oath.Before beginning his testimony, Sibiya raised concerns about the potential conflict of interest.In response, committee chairperson Soviet Lekganyane said Parliament’s rules limit the committee’s powers regarding member participation or membership decisions.He said the only recourse available was to write to the Speaker of Parliament to alert the office about any issues involving MPs. Proceedings continue on Monday.
